Best Time to Travel to Surigao

You can travel to Surigao any time of the year, as all the months have their own little advantages to visit our little paradise.

A big draw is the whale shark season, which starts in January and continues until early April. The weather in Surigao is at its best from March to October. So if you are looking for the absolutely best month to travel to Surigao, the pick would be March, when weather is picture perfect and you can still see the whale sharks.

The rainy season hits Surigao is in December and continues until end of February, as in much of the Philippines. However, It is also the most popular time of the year, as Europeans travel to the Philippines on their winter holidays. Rainfall usually does not last more than a couple of hours and won’t bother you too much. It is great time to escape the winter back at home, and to enjoy the company of fellow travellers.

It won’t ever be too busy in Surigao Dream, though as we have only 6 bungalows and our own endless stretch of pebble beach which will never feel crowded at all. We also have a very special Christmas feeling here in Surigao Dream as Santa Claus himself visits our little resort. How is that possible? It’s just natural for him to visit, as we come from Finland ourselves, the home country of Santa. So come and say hi to the bearded gift-giver himself!

March is all around perfect time to visit as mentioned earlier. At some point in April the whale sharks usually move out in their yearly migration, but don’t worry, you can still go looking of our other big draw, the big schools of dolphins, and if you are lucky, even swim with these gentle and intelligent marine acrobats. Dolphins you can see year around, and usually the chance is around 50 % per boat trip.

June and July bring the hot weather. Days are clear and sunny. If you don’t mind the heat, this is definitely a great time to travel to Surigao. If you are coming from Europe, enjoy your long summer break and tour some other great destinations in the Philippines too.

August-September is the windy season, when waves might prevent some days our dolphin watching tours. Unforgettable excursions can still be made inland and to the sheltered Eastern seaside of Surigao like the Day-Asan floating village, the magical Tinago Island, and magnificent Sohoton Lagoon. This time is perfect for the holidaymakers looking for peace and quiet.

And how long should you stay in Surigao Dream? Well that’s entirely up to you and what kind of traveler you are. If you are a fast mover, you can see the best we have to offer in three four days if you do day trips every day, but you definitely won’t get bored in a week or even two.

What often happens to us when our customers come from the close by Siargao island, they tell us after experiencing Surigao: “Oh, we should have stayed shorter time in Siargao and much longer in Surigao!”
